VG Rope Brake

UMD-SRB02 Control Box

The UMD-SRB02 Control Box is used in conjuncture with the bi-directional VG Rope Brake to protect against overspeeding and unintended movement.

This unit will connect directly to the main lift control panel, where it can receive power and signals to tell if the lift doors are open, or that the lift overspeed governor is okay. It also sends signals to the lift to say stop on the next floor if there is a problem, or emergency stop.

The UMD-SRB02 has an internal battery back-up system for the event of power loss, and switches seamlessly from mains power to battery and back again without the need for manual intervention to reset the brakes.

VG Rope Brake Sensor Pack

The VG Rope Brake Sensor Pack is supplied with bi-directional VG Rope Brakes, and is used specifically with the UMD-SRB02 Control Box.

The sensor pack is fitted to one of the VG Rope Brake units, where the sensor wheel is adjusted to align with the ropes to the lift car. Any subsequent movement of the lift car will cause the sensor wheel to rotate, which will in turn send a signal to the UMD-SRB02 Control Box. If the system has determined that the lift car is moving with the car doors open, the UMD-SRB02 Control Box will deploy the VG Rope Brakes to stop the elevator.

RB2a Control Box

The RB2a Control Box is used in conjuncture with a VG Rope Brake to protect against overspeeding in the upward direction.

This control unit incorporates a battery back-up circuit to prevent spurious operation should the power be disconnected for whatever reason. This will keep the VG Rope Brake disengaged and fully operational for a minimum of 3 hours.

VG Rope Brake

The VG Rope Brake is available as a single unit for overspeed protection in the upward direction, or as a pair of units for bi-directional overspeed and unintended movement protection. The bi-directional option can be installed as a complete pair with joining and mounting plates, or can be split and mounted either side of the traction sheave.

The brake utilizes a spring-loaded drop jaw that is held off the ropes by a magnet. When the rope brake receives a signal that the lift is overspeeding, or if unintended movement has been detected, the magnet will release the drop jaw which will trap the ropes between the drop jaw and the static jaw. Any subsequent movement of the lift ropes causes the drop jaw to fully engage and generate the braking force required to stop the lift without damaging the ropes.

The VG Rope Brake is supplied with the RB2a Control Box for single directional operation, or with the UMD-SRB02 Control Box and Sensor Pack for bi-directional operation.
