Overspeed Governors

AiO Speed Watcher

Atwell International’s new VG AiO Speed Watcher is a revolution in speed control and uncontrolled movement detection for the lift industry.

The electrical AiO system will constantly monitor the position and state of the electro-mechanical VG Safety Gear and will fail safe when any issues are detected.

The AiO Speed Watcher has been developed with the goal of eliminating mechanical reaction times associated with traditional lift safety products.  Often, a lift is still accelerating after activation of the OSG until deployment and engagement of the safety gears – the point at which braking starts.  By reducing the reaction time, we can reduce the activation speed. A reduced activation speed means the less distance a lift will fall, and the safety gear will operate closer to the designed activation speed.

The VG AiO Speed Watcher is a genuine game changer. It is the culmination of more than 25 years of experience in providing VG Safety Products™ to the lift industry.

Key features include:

• CE certified to EN81:20/50 by BSI.
• Replaces the traditional system of Overspeed Governor, Tension Weight and Rope.
• Eliminates the need for connection kits and bars when used with VG Safety Gears.
• Suitable for use on all guide rails, whether oiled or dry, from 9 to 19mm as standard.
• Offers full UCM and overspeed protection.
• Speed range of 0.05 to 7.5m/s.

Gervall UCM100

The UCM100 module is designed to control the supply of the coil of the electromagnet installed in the Gervall overspeed governor.

The module detects when the cabin is stopped at floor level and with the doors open through the serial and floor level inputs. The coil is stopped to activate the protection, which results in the cabin being protected against uncontrolled movement. The system does not lock the governor when the doors are closed, which allows normal operation of the elevator.

Bode Type 9

The Bode range of overspeed governors operate according to the pendulum principle: when the rated speed is exceeded, the pulley over which the governor rope runs locks. The friction occurring between the locked rope pulley and the governor rope (tractive force) is transmitted to the safety catch, causing it to engage.

The overspeed governor is considered a safety component, and is therefore subject to a testing process that complies with the requirements EN81-20/50:2014.

The Type 9 governor has a 300mm diameter pulley, test groove and hardened groove. To suit a trip speed of 0.50m/s – 0.70m/s.

Atwell Product Code: TYPE-9-GOV-*.** (asteriks determine governor trip speed, i.e. 0.50 or 0.65 etc.)
Manufacturer Product Code: EU-OG 084
Product: Type 9 Overspeed Governor

Bode Type 8

The Bode range of overspeed governors operate according to the pendulum principle: when the rated speed is exceeded, the pulley over which the governor rope runs locks. The friction occurring between the locked rope pulley and the governor rope (tractive force) is transmitted to the safety catch, causing it to engage.

The overspeed governor is considered a safety component, and is therefore subject to a testing process that complies with the requirements EN81-20/50:2014.

The Type 8 governor has a 200mm diameter pulley, test groove and hardened groove. To suit a trip speed of 0.50m/s – 2.04m/s.

Atwell Product Code: TYPE-8-GOV-*.** (asteriks determine governor trip speed, i.e. 0.65 or 1.30 etc.)

Bode Type 7

The Bode range of overspeed governors operate according to the pendulum principle: when the rated speed is exceeded, the pulley over which the governor rope runs locks. The friction occurring between the locked rope pulley and the governor rope (tractive force) is transmitted to the safety catch, causing it to engage.

The overspeed governor is considered a safety component, and is therefore subject to a testing process that complies with the requirements EN81-20/50:2014.

The Type 7 governor has a 300mm diameter pulley, test groove and hardened groove. To suit a trip speed of 0.70m/s – 3.43m/s.

VG Overspeed Governor

The VG Overspeed Governor is designed to be installed with new lifts and retro fitted to existing passenger and goods lifts, and when used in conjunction with other VG safety products will provide a complete solution to the requirements of EN81-20/50:2014.

The VG OSG connects to the main lift control panel via its own specific control box, VG OSG-CB01. From here, it can receive power and signals to tell if the lift doors are open, the state of the main motor contactor and the condition of the main safety circuit. The control box also has an internal battery backup system in case of power loss.

The governor incorporates a drop jaw mechanism which is monitored by electronic sensors and operates by releasing a 12v DC electro-magnet, which subesquently releases a drop weight that causes the jaw to drop and clamp the governor rope.

The governor is reset via the VG OSG-CB01 Control Box, where an actuator pushes the drop weight back in to its starting position, where it is again held by the electro-magnet.

Gervall Zeus

These overspeed governors are valid for activating instantaneous safety gears with rollers, instantaneous with shock absorber effect and progressives. There is the possibility of installation as overspeed governor (traditional overspeed governor) and/or for fulfillment of +A3 amendment of regulation N81:1/2:1998+A3:2009. As an overspeed governor for the installation of remote tripping at 24VDC (1A), 48 VDC(0,5A) and 230 VAC (0,15A).

For the traditional overspeed governor installed for +A3 the tripping mechanism will be 24 VDC (1,9A.), removing supply from the coil.

This overspeed governor can be installed on the left and the right of the guide rail without needing to be rotated and without any change in the design. Either direction of the pulley rotation can be used as direction of the activation in descent.

Gervall Goliath

These overspeed governors aactivate on opening their levers, by the effect of centrifugal force, when there is an overspeed of the car in both ascent and descent.

The roller rotates in the same direction as the lift moves until it touches the blocking disc and is braked between this disc and the wedge of the pulley, producing the mechanical tripping of the overspeed governor. This system allows infinate tripping points because they happen on any position of the roller surrounding the disc.

These overspeed governors are valid for activating instantaneous safety gears with rollers, instantaneous with shock absorption effect and progressives.
