According to the European Commission Enterprise and Industry web site, the “Date of cessation of presumption of conformity of superseded standard” for EN81-1:1998 is 31st December 2011.
This means that EN81-1:1998+A3:2009 becomes mandatory from 1st January 2012, and all new lift installations must comply with the revised regulations.
Most, if not all of the A3 solutions currently available in the marketplace comprise of individual elements that have not been designed specifically to work with one another.
This means that the responsibility for testing the assembled A3 solution rests with the Lift Company. We believe this is not acceptable, and a Lift Company should not have to ‘test’ goods; they should be able to buy a product that does exactly what it is supposed to do. The manufacturer should have that burden of proof and supply you with a fully tested and certified harmonised system that covers you for everything!
Atwell International believe that the range of VG Safety Products offer the only fully CE certified system for the protection against unintended car movement.
